New Deal For UFC Star

Note: Yeah...It's old news, but since everyone else is covering it...Here's some more info.

Canadian mixed martial arts champion Georges St. Pierre has signed a new six-fight deal that will make him one of the top-five earners in the UFC, his manager confirmed yesterday.

Financial details were not released, but St. Pierre's purse for dethroning long-time welterweight champion Matt Hughes in Sacramento last Nov. 18 was $58,000 -- $29,000 plus a $29,000 bonus for the victory.

"(He's done) very well. We're very happy," manager Stephane Patry said about the new deal.

St. Pierre had two fights left on his existing contract when he dethroned long-time title-holder Hughes at UFC 65 in Sacramento on Nov. 18.

The 25-year-old from Montreal is already one of UFC's most popular fighters. At 13-1, with an impressive all-round set of skills, he is exciting to watch inside the cage. He was to defend his title Saturday against Matt Serra in Las Vegas but the bout was postponed after St. Pierre hurt his knee wrestling in training.
