RASHAD EVANS & JOEY VILLASENOR TONIGHT

Despite a surprising first round by Sean Salmon at last Thursday’s UFC Fight Night, Rashad Evans was patient and waited for his time to come. Little more than a minute into the second round, Evans’ time came and it came with a fury. As Salmon dropped his hands, Evans connected with a thunderous kick to his head that dropped Salmon to the mat and left him unconscious, in a scary scene, for several minutes. Fortunately, Salmon later checked out okay as Evans secured his standing as one of the top UFC contenders in the light heavyweight division.

Evnas’ teammate and training partner, Joey Villasenor, has likewise been on a strong and steady climb in the sport over the past several years. With an overall record of 22-5, which includes a streak of 15 straight victories, Villasenor was a steal for the newly formed EliteXC promotion, which will air its first event next week on Showtime. Villasenor will step into the round cage utilized by EliteXC to square off with UFC veteran Dave “The Crow” Loiseau.
