'07 Jiu-Jitsu Worlds’ in California

Competition to happen August 23-26

The year of 2007 is going to be a historic one for competition Jiu-Jitsu. For the first time ever, the World Championship will be held outside of Rio de Janeiro and outside Brazil.

The 2007 Worlds’ will be held in Long Beach, California, more precisely in the California State University. Another significant change regards the date. Usually the tourney happens in July but this year it will happen form 23 to 26 of August.

Representative of the IBJJF, Marcelo Araujo, justified the choice of California for this year’s event: "We have chosen the USA because Jiu-Jitsu is growing a lot there. Our intention is to alternate Brazil and the USA as the home for the Worlds’. In the future, we plan to take the event to different parts of the planet.”

The California State University gymnasium is the same one that held the ADCC 2005, the world's premiere submission grappling competition.
