5 reasons why mixed martial arts is better than anything

Atlanta — Kurt Otto is co-founder of the International Fight League (IFL). Otto gives us his list of why mixed martial arts (MMA), which combines styles such as boxing, wrestling and jiu-jitsu, is better than, well, almost everything:

1. Better than boxing: The sport is dead. And have you ever listened to the post-fight interviews? MMA guys generally are college-educated and went to Division I schools. Also, would you rather drop your kids off for two hours at a boxing gym or a martial arts studio?

2. Better than baseball: When you watch our event on TV, it's exciting. Baseball, if it's not the World Series, it's not worth watching. Baseball on TV is like watching paint dry.

3. Better than basketball: Professional basketball to me is like another form of tennis. Back and forth, back and forth. It's nowhere near the strategy in an MMA match. You can see a great basketball game if you go to the park and watch a game.

4. Better than hockey: Because you can fight in our sport and not get thrown in the penalty box for beating somebody up.

5. Better than football: I like football. But the reason I like the IFL and MMA is you're responsible for your own actions. In football, if somebody misses a block, you can get creamed. You're not relying on somebody else.
