Stout retains lightweight title with win over Holanda at TKO 28: Inevitable

MONTREAL (CP) - Sam Stout of London, Ont., needed only two rounds to wear down Fabio Holanda of Brazil and retain his lightweight title at TKO 28: Inevitable before 5,000 boisterous mixed martial arts fans on Friday night at the Bell Centre.

Holanda (4-5-0) failed to answer the bell for the third round after two laborious rounds spent mostly wrestling on the floor.

The 22-year-old Stout, whose 11-2-1 record includes a 1-1 mark on the prestigious UFC circuit, looked to be in trouble more than once after being taken down by Holanda's jiu-jitsu skills, but managed to battle his way out each time.

"I didn't execute take down defence as well as wanted, but it still worked out," said Stout. "I was counting on him getting winded in the later rounds, but I didn't expect it to end like that.

"But I'll take it."
