Sylvia to Defend Title



EASTBROOK — Tim Sylvia will be defending his heavyweight title against Randy Couture in Ultimate Fighting Championship 68 on Saturday, March 3, in Columbus, Ohio. But win or lose, Sylvia will be coming home to greet friends and fans at an open house in the Eastbrook Community Center on Friday, March 9, from 6 to 9 p.m.

Refreshments and beverages will be available and Sylvia will signing autographs. T-shirts and other items provided by the UFC also will be available, and videos of Sylvia’s fights will be shown on a large screen provided by Rent A Center of Ellsworth. This will be Sylvia’s first visit home in several years, said his father, Deane, who is arranging the open house.

Sylvia now resides in Davenport, Iowa, where he trains with Militich Fighting Systems between UFC fights. The 30-year-old heavyweight, who fights under the nickname Maine-iac, first got involved in martial arts when he took up karate at the age of 12.
