TOP RANK AND GOOSSEN-TUTOR EXCHANGE LAWSUITS OVER MARGARITO-WILLIAMS

A source informed The Fight Network that Top Rank has launched litigation against Antonio Margarito and Goossen-Tutor promotions surrounding a bout agreement signed between Margarito, who is represented by Top Rank, and So Cal’s Goossen-Tutor Promotions.

Despite assurances by Margarito to Top Rank President Bob Arum that he would face promotional stablemate WBA Welterweight champion Miguel Cotto in a June 8th PPV at New York’s Madison Square Garden, the Tijuana-based WBO champion surreptitiously signed a bout agreement with Goossen-Tutor to face their fighter, Paul “The Punisher” Williams in a mandatory WBO title defense.

“It doesn’t make any sense,” the source told The Fight Network.

“Margarito’s giving up a guaranteed $2 million in his next fight if he beats Cotto. I guess he thought he couldn’t beat Miguel.”
