WRITERS TAB PACQUIAO AS FIGHTER OF THE YEAR

The Boxing Writers' Association of America (BWAA) has named super featherweight superstar Manny Pacquiao as its fighter of the year.

The Fight Of The Year was the Somsak Sithchatchawal and Mahyar Monshipour brawl in France.

Freddie Roach, Pacquiao's trainer, was named trainer of the year.

HBO analyst Larry Merchant was honoured with the award for long and meritorious service, while the Top Rank public relations duo of Lee Samuels and Ricardo Jimenez will be co-holders of the "Good Guy" award.

Showtime blow-by-blow man Steve Albert won the award for excellence in broadcast journalism. Muhammad Ali will get an award for perseverance.
