COLONEL, MERSCH TO MMA -- Las Vegas resident Col. Bob Sheridan, a Hall of Fame play-by-play boxing announcer, has caught the mixed martial arts bug in a big way.

Sheridan will be at ringside in St. Petersburg, Russia, on April 14 for an MMA fight between heavyweight star Fedor Emialenenko and Matt Lindland.

"I love that sport," Sheridan said of MMA.

Also moving to MMA is Mike Mersch, the Nevada deputy attorney general who represents the Nevada Athletic Commission. Mersch has taken a job with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, where he will join former co-worker Kirk Hendrick, now UFC's chief operating officer.
