Knockout Factory cage fighters make good showing at national event

COLUMBUS, Ohio -It was an easy night for the judges at ringside as each Knockout Factory fighter won their bout before time expired.Local pugilists Carl Kettle, Dave Lyons and Chris Howard competed in the "Irish Beatdown" mixed martial arts event over the weekend.

Lyons fought in the opening match of the night against Sean Kohler. Thirty-five minutes into the match, Lyons forced Kohler to submit with his guillotine choke.

The next of the local competitors to step into the cage was doing so for the first time.

Kettle battled many times to reverse a match that shifted back and forth in the first round. When the second round began, Kettle took control and assaulted his opponent with blows to the head and midsection.

The referee had decided that Kettle had proved his superiority for the evening and stopped the fight, giving him a win by TKO in the second round.

Howard started off his bout by taking a few hard shots from his opponent.

Much like Kettle's match, Howard took control, in the second when he used a jiu-jitsu style arm bar from the bottom position to earn the win by submission at the 1:36 point in the round.

After showing the caliber of the fighters it had presented, fight promoters decided to give the Top Team award to Knockout Factory coaches Mike Tome and Jimmy Wilder.

With their wins over the weekend, the three fighters have qualified for the next event to be held in Columbus on Saturday Apr. 7.

Tickets for the upcoming event will be available at www.ticketmaster.com.
