MMA Down Under: News from Australia..Warriors Realm 8..

What a night last Friday at the Hurstville Civic Centre. Warriors Realm 8 lived up to all expectations. A 14-fight card meant a long night was ahead for MMA DOWN UNDER.

Four hours of fury unfolded throughout the night. Big hits, big slams, big talent. Check the results below for winners. (Report by C. Frost)

FIGHT OF THE NIGHT in my opinion was Jim Kendrovski v Heath Mc Manus, due to the deafening roars of the crowd for home town favorite JK and the emphatic victory for Heath, which subsequently silenced the crowd. Heath caught Jim on the break with a big rising knee that rocked him. He then followed up with a right cross that KO’d Jim and the home fans.

ONE TO WATCH is definitely Dylan Andrews, not only for his talent but also his showmanship. He displayed great takedown skills and a brutal ground and pound game against Yoann Gouaida from France, with Tito Ortiz-like accuracy and venom. Judging by his pre-fight antics, Dylan is obviously a fan of Oritz. He rained down a barrage of strikes and forearms which left Yoann bloodied and seemingly dazed as the referee twice puased the fight, to ensure Yoann was right to continue. Upon resumption Andrews was quick to re assert his authority and proceeded to slam Gouaida to the canvas and continued his ruthless ground and pound attack until the ref was forced to call an end to the bout nearing the end of the second round.

CONTROVERSY surrounded the highly anticipated fight between PRIDE fighter Hector Lombard and PRIDE prospect James Te Huna. Lombard was furious when the referee seemed to end the fight prematurely, after he connected with a short right hook that stunned Te Huna - his legs looked to give way, Lombard pounced with a flurry of punches and the ref stepped in to end the fight. Lombard raised his hand in triumph only for the ref to signal a time out for reasons not known to yours truly. When the fight got back under way Lombard again stunned Te Huna with a precise strike and the fight went to the mat. Te Huna struggled back to his feet momentarily and Lombard tried to toss him back to the ground, with this both fighters were thrust forward landing face first on the canvas. Te Huna landed awkwardly and dislocated his shoulder (not for the first time), which forced him to tap out, handing Lombard victory. After the fight Hector Lombard called out KOTC Champion Tony Bonello and laid down the challenge for a Warriors Realm showdown between the two. Now that is a recipe for a quality showdown right there.

THE FIRST WR HEAVY WEIGHT TITLE goes to Brad Morris after he dispatched David Lock in the first round of their championship fight. Morris stunned Lock early with a booming over hand right and took the fight to the mat where he worked some body shots on Lock. Morris had the better ground skills and secured an impressive victory with an arm / head choke to become the title holder.

All in all it was a great night. Shane Balmer, Luke Pezutti and company should all be proud as Warriors Realm has established itself as the leading MMA organization in Australia. They are looking to host another show in Sydney in July in a larger venue.
