Before, he was 135kg, but now he decided to lose weight to the enter the heavys category and is weighing 122kg" said Alex, who believes in Pezão´s victory in Elite XC, which is held this Saturday (10) in Texas, USA. "Johnathan Wiezorack is tough, has 11 fights and only one loss, but I believe Pezão can win him. He is returning to be the best heavy in the world" bet Alex. Source: www.tatame.com

Mirko "Crocop" Filipovic Speaks - 10 Nov 2007 07:20:03am Posted: 10 Nov 2007 01:20 AM CST Dnevnik.hr: Is CroCop back? Mirko: CroCop is recovered, it will take a month to begin with sparrings again, although I have a special helmet for protection. The stripes are affecting my visibility so it's not like the real thing, but the regular sparring sessions start in about a month. I think my next fight is going to happen in January. You recently had a nose surgery? Mirko: The nose problems have nothing to do with my defeats. I had trouble breathing, my nose was broken, one side was at 30%, while the other side was blocked completely. It's important when you face such an intense efforts. Is this the toughest period in your career after you left K1? Mirko: Not only that, this is the toughest period of my entire career. Did you think about ending your career? Mirko: I did think of it the night after my last defeat, but I'm not going to end my career soon. I will have 5 or 6 fights at least. Maybe even more, who can tell. Every fight could be your last one. You can suffer from a fatal injury, you can break your leg or arm. If I'll be able to fight I'll fight, it's my life and my choice and I enjoy doing it. I have a very strong motive, especially beacuse of number of „wise" Internet users saying that I'm done. I will prove they were wrong. Did you ever think about taking a year off to rest and come back stronger? Mirko: In my case that would be a very long break. Of course, I would train a lot still if it would happen. Sometime you have to end your career, in a year, 3 or 5 years, or even 10 years - look at Randy Couture, he was the champion at 44. I will always train hard, but long breaks like that are not for me. Are you in touch with Dana White and how does he feel about your defeats? Mirko: We keep in touch, but you'll have to ask him about that. So, your nose is recovering well, you are wearing a special helmet. Your return is set for January due to a medical reasons? Mirko: Yes, because of the surgery I'm not allowed to fight sooner. My nose is not fully recovered and I still have stiches in it. Are there any rumors about your next opponent? Mirko: None that I'm aware of. Who you would like to fight next? Someone with a big reputation or? Mirko: It's up to the UFC's management. I will fight anyone who they put me against. I have never turned down any opponent. Anything left to say? Mirko: I'll be back (smiling). Source: www.mirko-crocop.com

Frank Trigg & Mayhem Announced For HDNET Fights - 10 Nov 2007 07:11:07am Posted: 10 Nov 2007 01:11 AM CST Mark Cuban's HDNet Fights on Friday officially announced its Dec. 15 event at the American Airlines Center in Dallas. The co-main events feature four Ultimate Fighting Championship veterans. Jason "Mayhem" Miller and Sean Salmon will square off, sharing top billing with Frank Trigg and his opponent, Edwin Dewees. Also announced for the event, entitled "Reckless Abandon," are fights between Yves Edwards and Alonzo Martinez, Pete Spratt and Tristan Yunker, Chris Bowles and Cory Mahon, Patrick Castillo and Jay White, and Freddie Espiricueta and C.B. Dollaway. "With Frank (Trigg) and Jason (Miller), you know there's going to be a ton of action and lots of bizarre things can happen in the cage," said Guy Mezger, HDNet Fights' matchmaker. "Frank is called 'Twinkle Toes' because he's known for painting his toe nails, but it certainly doesn't represent his vicious fighting style. "On the other hand, Jason has certainly earned his 'Mayhem' nickname. With him, you never know what you will see, but you know it will be something crazy." "We're thrilled to have these talented and entertaining fighters on board with HDNet Fights," said Cuban. "Our goal is to present the best fighters in the best fights we can make. These are two of the top middleweights in the world and we are fortunate enough to have them both fighting on the same card.

Riddick Bowe Training MMA With Mark Kerr! - 10 Nov 2007 04:49:12am Posted: 09 Nov 2007 10:49 PM CST By David A. Avila HOLLYWOOD, CA. - It was a surreal sight to find former heavyweight world champion boxer Riddick Bowe standing near the entrance to a mixed martial arts fight card in the back lot of an old Hollywood motion picture studio that is now a nightclub. But there he was "Big Daddy" the former scourge of prizefighting who retired for a period of eight years then returned with a fight here and there. Bowe wants to return again, but not to boxing, he's throwing his hat into the world of MMA. "I've got to make a living for my family," said Bowe, 40, who is a two-time heavyweight champion in professional boxing. Xcess Entertainment signed Bowe to fight exclusively for them beginning on Dec. 12. Though no site has been confirmed the former boxer is targeted for that fight card in California. "If Evander Holyfield can fight so can I," said Bowe citing his former foe's age of 45. "I just turned 40." Bowe will not be the first former world champion boxer to try the cage, 46-year-old Ray Mercer is a former WBO titleholder who participated in an MMA fight and was submitted by Kimbo Slice this year. But Bowe and his promoters hope to get the former boxer prepared by next month. "We have Riddick Bowe training with Mark Kerr in Los Angeles," said Bruce Valachi, CEO for Xcess Fighting. "He should learn a lot from Kerr." (Continue Reading)

Cotto Hopes To Capitalize On His Youth - 10 Nov 2007 04:15:23am Posted: 09 Nov 2007 10:15 PM CST By Lance Pugmire NEW YORK -- Miguel Cotto's building process is complete. He's 27, unbeaten and ready to cash in on his stature as the World Boxing Assn. welterweight champion. Orchestrated by his veteran promoter Bob Arum, Cotto has knocked out 25 of 30 opponents on a steady career path that parallels the one perfected by Oscar De La Hoya -- a slow and steady series of challenges that accounts for a learning curve but aims for a legendary night. Saturday is that evening for Cotto, who will fight Pomona's Sugar Shane Mosley at Madison Square Garden in New York. Mosley has won world championship belts as a lightweight, welterweight and light middleweight. He's also 36 years old, hasn't knocked out anyone except Fernando Vargas since 2001, and now finds himself in his 50th fight, counting a no-decision. "Throughout boxing history, there's always been battles between the young lion and the old lion," Arum said. "If the young lion is well-schooled, he wins. That's the law of nature and boxing." Underdog Santiago Preparing to Upset Bodog Fight Champ - 10 Nov 2007 02:21:25am Posted: 09 Nov 2007 08:21 PM CST Bodog Fight Middleweight Champion Trevor Prangley may be considered the favorite to win California's first-ever sanctioned mixed martial arts tournament, but Florida's Jorge Santiago is prepared to upset the champ should they meet Friday, Nov. 16 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose. "I'll throw everything I have at him," says Santiago. "I think I can beat him on the ground or standing up." Santiago (14-7) and Prangley (16-4) are two of the four men competing in the single-elimination middleweight tournament that will headline Strikeforce: Four Men Enter, One Man Survives, presented by Bodog Fight. The other combatants are Yuki Sasaki (21-13-1) and Falaniko "Niko" Vitale (24-7). The winner of the tournament will have to get through two matches, with each bout consisting of two five-minute rounds. A random draw to determine the match-ups will take place during the weigh-in, and although Santiago recognizes Prangley's skills, he isn't afraid to face him in the tournament. "Trevor Prangley says he is one of the best 185-pound fighters in the world and I agree with him, but everyone has his day." A black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Santiago is a threat on the mat but he's also able to strike with the best - as he proved in his Bodog Fight debut last April in St. Petersburg, when he knocked out the hard-hitting Andrei Semenov with a vicious uppercut. The blow stunned the Russian so badly, he mistakenly attempted to tackle the referee before he could regain his bearings. (Continue Reading)

Kimbo the latest street-fighting sensation - 10 Nov 2007 12:42:09am Posted: 09 Nov 2007 06:42 PM CST By Dave Meltzer Will the real Kimbo Slice please stand up? Before there was such a thing as UFC, and knowledge of what constituted real fighting with techniques from every fighting sport legal, people had their fantasy about the big streetfighter who wasn't trained in the gym who was the toughest guy in town. The role is as old as the fame of the pro wrestler Dick the Bruiser in the 50s, and maybe goes back to the pioneer heavyweight boxer, John L. Sullivan. In the modern MMA era, the first guy in the U.S. who fit the bill was David "Tank" Abbott. In the early days of UFC, even though Abbott never got so much as one win in his career over a top-level fighter, he made himself a lucrative career in the sport and was one of the most popular and most talked about fighters in the UFC's early years. Whether true or not, people bought into the idea that Abbott was this guy who would rather fight than do anything else, and would come off the bar stool and get into the cage and fight anyone at any time. Even today, Abbott has this unique charisma, because people think back to the early UFC's and remember his spectacular knockouts, even though most of them were a generation ago against fighters with skill levels that the only way they'd be at a UFC show today is if they purchased a ticket. But Abbott has past 40, and his record over the past nine years is 1-7. (Continue Reading)

Will Shields get chance to shine? - 09 Nov 2007 07:10:28pm Posted: 09 Nov 2007 01:10 PM CST By Kevin Iole He hasn't lost since the end of 2004 and he's reeled off victories over some of the top mixed martial artists in the world, but Jake Shields somehow remains one of the game's most anonymous stars. And even when things seem to be going good for him, something happens to put a damper on it. But Shields takes the view that sooner or later, it's going to dawn on the masses that he's one of the world's elite welterweights. Shields, 28, hasn't lost since he dropped a decision to Akira Kikuchi on Dec. 14, 2004. Since, he's reeled off eight in a row, including wins over WEC champion Carlos Condit and top-ranked UFC middleweight Yushin Okami. Shields, who is 19-4-1, thought he was going to be fighting Mike Pyle on Showtime on Saturday in Corpus Christi, Texas, for the Elite XC welterweight title. He'll still be fighting Pyle and he'll still be on Showtime, but the title shot has vanished. Pyle was unhappy with the way he was being promoted by Elite XC and declined the title shot. Shields wasn't sure what to make of the situation, but said he'll bring the same intensity he would have had the bout been for a belt. "Obviously, every fighter wants to win a championship," Shields said. "It's one of my goals. He didn't want it for whatever his reasons are, but that doesn't change the fact that I need to perform at a certain level." (Continue Reading)

Kelly Pavlik Official Injury Update - 09 Nov 2007 07:00:05pm Posted: 09 Nov 2007 01:00 PM CST World middleweight champion KELLY PAVLIK suffered minor injuries to his hands and forearms while repairing a broken window at his house on November 5, but the prognosis is excellent and his rematch against former world champion Jermain Taylor remains on schedule for February 16, 2008 "Kelly sustained three superficial lacerations to the right forearm and hand and also three superficial lacerations to the left forearm and hand. He also had numerous superficial abrasions. The wounds were explored and there was no evidence of tendon damage or tendon involvement on any of the lacerations. The six lacerations were repaired with sutures in the office," said Sandy P. Naples, M.D. of Poland Family Practice in Poland, OH. Dr. Naples is also the Chairman of the Department of Family Practices at St. Elizabeth Health Center. "He has full function including full flexion, extension, supination and pronation. He has full range of motion of his fingers." In layman's terms, within a week of the sutures being removed, scheduled for November 16, Kelly will be able to resume his training. Pavlik's training camp for the Taylor rematch remains set for the first week of December. Source: www.doghouseboxing.com

The 'Count'Down - Week Three - 09 Nov 2007 06:20:36pm Posted: 09 Nov 2007 12:20 PM CST By Michael Bisping Hi everyone. This week I'm going to focus this whole thing on talking to Rashad directly, after his hilarious and slightly puzzling blog on UFC.com two days ago. Enjoy! Rashad, I'm glad you've got an English guy in camp so he can tell you what I mean when I say your last blog was complete bollocks. At the risk of taking it to the "He said, she said" level - you threw the first rotten egg, mate. You did the video on UFC.com blasting me as a fighter and insinuating you shouldn't even have to fight me. Then your blog on Wednesday went completely over the top, making this fight a little personal when it is really about two undefeated fighters trying to move up the division. I extended you nothing but respect, all I did was predict a win for myself and did a few one-liners about a knockout (it is called selling a fight, Rashad) which I even added the smiley face ;-) to make sure everyone knew it was just "fighting hype talk" and not to be taken seriously. But thanks for giving me a look inside your head with your little rant. It was very interesting indeed, not to mention laugh out loud funny in places. I don't know if Joe Rogan is looking for an opening act for his comedy gigs, but your blog is a hell of an audition piece if he is. You kept on about all these disrespectful things I'd said, but he never once gave an example. And such big fighting words from such a short man, Rashad! Very funny. (Continue Reading)

UFC playing hardball with Arlovski - 09 Nov 2007 06:04:55pm Posted: 09 Nov 2007 12:04 PM CST By Roman Modrowski Former UFC heavyweight champ Andrei Arlovski is in the biggest fight of his career, and he's losing. Arlovski, who fights out of Chicago, is in a war of wills with UFC president Dana White. And as fierce as the 6-4, 240-pound Arlovski has been in the octagon at times, White is the toughest hombre in the UFC. You don't take a nothing organization and build it into a Sports Illustrated cover story without being able to stare down formidable opponents. Arlovski has one fight left on his UFC contract. White wants to sign him to an extension before scheduling Arlovski's next fight. Arlovski wants to fight first and then negotiate a new contract. If he doesn't sign an extension or fight again, Arlovski's contract expires April 15. White holds all the cards, but I doubt he'll just let the contract expire. It's bad business. Arlovski remains one of the five most popular fighters in the UFC. Just his appearance in Cincinnati at UFC 77 caused a huge stir in the crowd despite the fact he hasn't fought since April 21. At the very least, White will want Arlovski to sell pay-per-view units before the contract expires. But in the meantime, Arlovski doesn't have an income. He still trains at JABB gym, and trainers aren't free. He's also losing sponsorship opportunities. (Continue Reading)
