Silva-Lutter: It’s ‘All or Nothing’ for the Challenger



A year ago, Travis Lutter had to wonder if he would ever receive another opportunity to compete in the Octagon.

The Texas native was only days away from a bout in England against durable fighter Jose Landi-Jons. But his mind had to be on what, if anything, was left of a UFC career after back-to-back losses to Matt Lindland and Trevor Prangley. It’s not that there is anything shameful in losing to top fighters like those two; rather, Lutter’s performance in those fights was less than thrilling en route to defeat.

And that is a good way to stall one’s UFC career.

As luck would have it, however, UFC President Dana White decided to have a “comeback” theme for the fourth season of The Ultimate Fighter. Eight middleweights sitting on the fringe of the UFC’s list of contenders received the opportunity to compete in a single-elimination tournament with the winner earning a much-coveted shot at the middleweight title.
