UFN 8 features key title elimination matchup between Fisher & Franca

Rashed Evans is getting most of the pre-fight run for UFC's Ultimate Fight Night 8 - the lack of a mark under the loss column always generates attention - but the key bout on the card is the lightweight hookup between Spencer Fisher and Hermes Franca.

A Miletich product, Fisher (19-2) has been tabbed as a top contender in the re-established lightweight division. He posted a 4-1 record in 2006, losing only to Sam Stout in a split decision that could have swung Fisher's way.

Franca (17-5) fought in four different promotions last year and was victorious every time out. I love the energy he brings to the ring and his tough combination of striking and submission proficiency. Fisher is an upgrade in comp in comparison to Franca's recent fight fodder. The winner is in line for a title shot that could come later this year.

Another highlight of Thursday evening's action from the Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, Fla., will be the UFC debut of veteran Heath Herring - the "Texas Crazy Horse."
