WBC ORDERS “COMPULSARY MEDIATION” TO SETTLE HEAVYWEIGHT MORASS



The WBC has invited representatives of Sam Peter, Vitali Klitschko, and heavyweight champion Oleg Maskaev to participate in what it terms “compulsory mediation” in order to determine Maskaev’s next opponent.

Samuel Peter twice defeated James Toney in what were billed, and sanctioned, by the WBC as official eliminators to determine Maskaev’s mandatory challenger. But just two weeks ago, Klitschko, who had retired as WBC Champion in November of 2005 and was subsequently named “Champion Emeritus,” had petitioned the sanctioning body to be next in line to fight Maskaev.

With a massive all-Russian title fight staring him in the face, Maskaev and his camp are lobbying hard for Klitschko, while Peter and his camp are adamant that the Nigerian should be the next in line for a title shot, especially since Maskaev used his optional defense this past December to face the virtually unknown Peter Okhello in Moscow.
