Eskimo thought he was 'invincible' until KO



EDMONTON -- Edmonton Eskimos fullback Mike Maurer drove back to Regina with wounded pride Sunday, less than 12 hours after crumpling to the canvas, unconscious, in a Maximum Fighting Championship bout at the Shaw Conference Centre.

The fallout from the knockout blows to the head is expected to reverberate across Canada and reignite the debate over the lack of control professional football teams have over the extra-curricular activities of their players.

"Some guys like to ski, and some guys ride motorcycles without helmets," says Eskimos head coach Danny Maciocia. "Some guys like to do things like Ultimate Fighting, but I don't see how we can stop them."
