Hearing On Lampley Restraining Order Delayed Again

VISTA, Calif. -- A hearing on whether to extend a temporary restraining order keeping sports announcer Jim Lampley away from a former Miss California USA was postponed Tuesday while lawyers await word on whether prosecutors will file a criminal case against him.

It's the third delay in the hearing, which was originally set for Jan. 4, the day after Lampley was arrested for allegedly violating the order.

In a declaration in support of the TRO, 2003 Miss California USA Candice Sanders wrote that the 57-year-old HBO boxing announcer pushed her against the door and two walls of her apartment on New Year's Eve night.

Lampley, who also is known for co-hosting television coverage of the Olympics, was drunk and high on marijuana at the time, Sanders wrote. He pushed her to the floor of a New York City restaurant two months earlier, but apologized and agreed to undergo counseling, according to Sanders.

The temporary order, granted Jan. 2 by Judge Joseph Brannigan, bars Lampley from coming within 100 yards of Sanders, her Garden View Road apartment or her place of employment. He's also not allowed to contact her in any way and was told to return a 2007 BMW she claimed was hers.
