HENDO’S HEALING

By Loretta Hunt

Setting a world record in mixed martial arts does not come without a price. PRIDE Welterweight (Under 183 lbs) and new Middleweight (Under 205 lbs) Champion Dan Henderson – the first fighter to hold two simultaneous titles in a promotion – broke his hand in the first round of Saturday’s PRIDE 33 event before knocking out ex-champion Wanderlei Silva two minute and eight seconds into the third round.

Henderson’s physician placed the champ’s left hand in a cast this afternoon, which will remain on for three weeks. After that, a “no sparring” order has been placed on the Greco-Roman wrestling Olympian for another eight weeks.

Henderson estimates he’ll be back in competition in four to five months.
