Interview with Keith Jardine: Are Chuck Liddell and UFC 71 on the Horizon?



Q. Your lone loss in the UFC came to Stephan Bonnar at UFC Fight Night 4 — and a lot of people thought you actually won that fight. What did you think?
A. Yeah, I thought I won. But it was a public victory, I guess. I felt bad that I officially lost. It was a close fight, and I’m not going to complain at all. That’s just not me. But what I got from that was a lot of fans who thought I won it and really rallied behind me. The fight really brought me into the public.

Q. The talk as of late, of course, has been a potential match with Chuck Liddell at a rumored UFC 71 Memorial Day card. Have you heard the chatter?
A. Yeah, but not until [Friday] did I hear about it. It’s been all informal talk up until now, so there’s nothing definite to report. But there seems to be some discussion about the possibility.

Q. So then, you would — in fact — want to fight Liddell?
A. Without question. That’s what you fight for. What an honor it would be to fight one of the greatest fighters of all-time. I mean, that’s why we do what we do — to get that type of opportunity.
