Holyfield busts up Maddalone!

By Byron Spurlock

Four-time heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield (41-8-2, 27 knockouts) won by third round TKO against Vinny Maddalone (27-4, 19 KOs) on Saturday night at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. Not suprisingly, Maddalone was cut by an unintentional headbutt in round one. Holyfield continued to bust up Maddalone's face after that and in round three, Maddalone's trainer Al Certo asked for a stoppage. Time was 2:48.

Heavyweight Calvin Brock (30-1, 23 KOs), returning from his unsuccessful heavyweight title shot against Wladimir Klitschko, got back in the win column with a first round KO against Ralph West (17-11-1, 14 KOs). A right hand put West down for the count. Time was 2:49.

Bantamweight Raul Martinez (18-0, 12 KOs) won an eight round unanimous decision over Kevin Hudgins (5-9, 2 KOs). Scores were 80-71, 80-71, 79-72. Martinez scored a knockdown in round five.
