NOT YOUR USUAL WEIGH-INS

By Loretta Hunt

LOS ANGELES, March 16---- To the right, a life-sized poster of the Astonishing X-men hung from the ceiling. To the left, a LionsGate booth boasted the coming of motion picture “The Invincible Iron Man.”

In the center, a model of the International Fight League ring touted the real life “superheroes,” announced IFL Commissioner Kurt Otto, who oversaw today’s official weigh-ins for the MMA promotion’s fourth event of 2007 at “Wizard World,” a hugely popular comic book and popular culture gathering held at the L.A. Convention Center.

With the inclusion of today’s proceedings at the Wizard World Convention, IFL co-founder Gareb Shamus has delivered on his promise to infuse mixed martial arts into this industry willing to spend a dollar or two on their heroes. Now, the question is it will catch on?
