Victor Burgos Comes out of Coma

According to a report by Robert Morales of the Press Telegram, Mexican boxer Victor Burgos has come out of medically-induced coma and is responding to to doctors at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, California.

Alan Hopper, head of public relations for Don King, told the paper that "Burgos successfully answered a few verbal commands," and his condition appears to be improving.

Burgos was badly beaten during his weekend bout with flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan at Home Depot Center. He was stopped in the 12th round of the fight, and had to be removed from the ring on a stretcher. The beating he took from Darchinyan caused a caused a blood clot to form on his brain, which was removed during surgery on Saturday. He remains in the intensive care unit.
