Mark "The Machine" Hominick looks to regain TKO title Friday night

By: NEIL DAVIDSON

(CP) - After beating veteran Yves Edwards in his UFC debut last March, Mark (The Machine) Hominick's mixed martial arts career hit a bump next fight out.

The 145-pounder from Thamesford, Ont., lost his TKO featherweight title to Japan's Hatsu Hioki, who won via triangle choke submission in May. On Friday night, Hominick tackles Hioki again on the main event of TKO 28: Inevitable at the Bell Centre.

Hominick says he paid for his ignorance of Hioki, a lanky featherweight at 5-10.

"I didn't really know his skill set," Hominick said Thursday from Montreal. "His record didn't really show any true contender that he had beaten. I just didn't know a lot about him.

A WELL OILED FIGHTING MACHINE

By Mike Russell

The Canadian Oxford Dictionary defines a machine as “an apparatus using or applying mechanical power; having several parts, each with a definite function which together perform certain kinds of work”. This definition is also a fitting description of the dangerous, oft time frenetic fighting style of Mark “The Machine” Hominick(13-5-0).

The function of “The Machine” this Friday night at TKO 28 “Inevitable” at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec will be to suppress the submission attempts of TKO Featherweight Champion, Hatsu Hioki (11-1-1), while working towards finishing the Japanese Shooto fighter.

“I’ll have to be careful in the first round to not let him attempt to go for a quick submission. I think the longer the fight goes the likelihood it will end in my favor increases,” says the Canadian striker “I’m just going to have to push the pace and really make him work for his takedowns and everything he wants to do. After the second or third round, I’m going for the TKO. I always try to finish the fight. That’s always been my game plan. I’ll let my hands and feet dictate when the fight will end.”

CANADIANS FLY SOUTH

By Lorretta Hunt.

TKO 28 participants Mark Hominick and Sam Stout are currently completing a training camp at Dan Henderson’s Team Quest gym in Murrieta, California in preparation for their Feb. 10 title bouts in the popular Canadian promotion. The Fight Network’s Aaron Crecy investigates these Canadians’ migration south for the winter here.

Stout (10-2-1) defends his lightweight title against Fabio Holanda (4-4) on Feb. 10, while Hominick (13-5) rematches champion Hatsu Hioki (11-1-1) for the featherweight (under 145 lbs) accolade.
