Sean Salmon speaks about his fight with Rashad Evans

Sean Salmon (9-2) made his first appearance for the UFC on January 25th against Rashad Evans, fighting in the main event of UFC Fight Night. His debut was spoiled when he was on the receiving end of a devastating high kick comparable only to the likes of Mirko Cro Cop.

Salmon spent the rest of the week taking a much need break by spending time with his family. Returning from his short vacation, Salmon was kind enough to take his time out to share his thoughts on the fight and update us on his status with the UFC.

MMAFighting.com: How are you doing?

Sean Salmon: I am doing just fine. I obviously went to the hospital that night and had a series of tests done on my head. Everything came back negative, so I am very happy about that.

Sean Salmon's "Fight Night" Diary

Hello Everyone, I want to thank everyone that has taken the time to read my blog from Florida this week. I hope that you have found it enjoying, as I enjoyed writing it and reading your comments. Thank you. I do plan on doing a blog tomorrow night after the fight, but I can’t promise. I don't know what is expected of me after the fight, as far as time commitment and where I need to be or what I need to be doing. However, if I don’t get to it tomorrow night, I will for sure get it done on Friday.

I woke up at 9 a.m. this morning because we had to check our weight with the UFC sometime between 9 and 11 a.m., so I wanted to get it done with early. I got down to the arena and weighed in at 213, seven pounds over (we get a one-pound allowance). Since I was eating and drinking like normal, I was fully hydrated, so seven pounds is easy to lose.

My brother/trainer Danny, brother Matt, cornerman BJ, and friend Jeremy went down to the spa to get started. I split time between the stationary bike and the sauna for about an hour and a half. I went back to the room and did some work on the focus mitts for about 15 minutes. I checked my weight and was down. The workout was a lot easier than normal since I had a camera crew following us around & I found them motivational.

We got to the arena for weigh-ins at around 3 p.m. We had to finish up some paper work with the Florida Athletic Commission, a quick physical, and a rules meeting from Big John McCarthy, and we were getting called to the scale. It was exciting to have fans show up for the weigh-ins.

Sean Salmon's "Fight Night" Diary

Hello everyone from Florida. Well, today is the day I really started to turn my focus back to the fight 100%. When I start training for a fight, I focus 100%, but when I get to the hotel a couple days before the fight, I only think about it when I am training. I do this because it is very easy to get yourself all wound up right when you get there and you still have several days to go it’s just wasting a lot of energy on nerves. However, today being the day before weigh ins, it's time to really start focusing again. I think I have an advantage because I don't have to cut a lot of weight, which leaves me more time for actual preparation.

I woke up a little earlier today than I normally do, no reason in particular. Had my breakfast and went for a jog. After that, my brothers, corner man BJ Hedger, and friend Jeremy Zemach, just relaxed in the room. I had a UFC camera crew come up and do about a 20-minute interview. They will also be following me around tomorrow and Thursday. I am not sure what they are dong with the footage (for the website or DVD?). After that, my brother/trainer Danny and I went down to the mats and basically just broke a sweat rolling. Nothing specific or too tough. When we were done, we got a quick bite to eat and are now watching a movie and about to go to bed.

I am going to wake up at about 8:45 tomorrow to get a quick workout in. We have to check in with the UFC anytime between 9 and 11 a.m.

That is all for today. Tomorrow’s blog should be a bit more interesting since we have weigh-ins. I am looking forward to it.

Goodnight from Florida.

Sean
