Day to Face Hollett at MFC 12 “High Stakes” June 22nd

After defeating Ricardeau Francois in 20 seconds via submission due to punches this past weekend at Extreme Caged Combat 5, Roger Hollett (5-0) can now begin preparing for his next fight with Jason Day (14-6). The bout is scheduled to take place at the Maximum Fighting Championship 12, “High Stakes” on June 22nd in Edmonton, Alberta, and will feature two of the Nation’s better 205 pound fighters.

Since losing to MFC Light-heavyweight Champion Victor Valimaki at MFC 10 last September, Day has been on a tear, winning 5 fights in a row, including a guillotine choke victory over Francois at KOTC “Amplified” in November. The pre-fight hype for this bout is already building, as Day has been quoted saying in a few interviews he believes he can beat Hollett in under two minutes. After the Nova Scotian fighter knocked out Edmonton Eskimo football player Mike Maurer at MFC 11 in February, Hollett responded to Day’s comments in his post-fight, in ring interview, telling Day to sing a contract and prove it.

First up for the MFC organization though is the promotion’s upcoming MFC “Unplugged” event on April 20th in Edmonton, which will be headlined by heavyweight Scott Junk taking on Dominic Richard.

Top award for "The Athlete" EBWC recognizes MacDonald as MMA Fighter of the Year

Jason "The Athlete" MacDonald of Pro Camp Sports Management has been named the first recipient of the Edmonton Boxing and Wrestling Commission's Mixed Martial Arts Fighter of the Year Award. He received the award on Tuesday night at a gala dinner and was joined by his wife Kelly, Pro Camp and Maximum Fighting Championship Owner/President Mark Pavelich and the entire Pro Camp/MFC team.

MacDonald was recognized for his accomplishments in 2006 when he went notched six consecutive wins.
"Everyone at Pro Camp and the MFC is extremely proud of Jason. No one in Edmonton, and except for UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre, no one in all of Canada came close to having the type of year that Jason did in 2006," said Pavelich.

"Jason has always had a great legion of supporters in Edmonton, all over Alberta and throughout Canada. But everything exploded for him once he hit the UFC. He went from being a relative unknown there to becoming an international fan favourite in such a short period of time. It was hard work that got him to that point in his career and hard work that earned him this award."

The presentation to Jason included a videotaped message of congratulations from UFC President Dana White. Among Jason's victories in '06 were two outstanding performances in the UFC. In October, Jason made his UFC debut and coined the now-famous "I'm not a stepping stone for anybody" line when he used a perfect triangle choke to defeat The Ultimate Fighter reality show finalist Ed Herman on Ultimate Fight Night at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida.

Jason then made it consecutive victories over The Ultimate Fighter show stars when he scored a spectacular guillotine choke stoppage over Chris Leben in UFC 66 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. In both of those UFC fights, Jason received the Submission of the Night bonus and his victory over Leben was No. 4 on the UFC's list of Submissions of the Year for 2006.

Jason's triumphs in '06 included a victory at MFC 10 - Unfinished Business in Edmonton and a hat trick of wins at ECC events in Atlantic Canada.

MFC Unplugged III

Based out of Edmonton, Alberta, the MFC is one of Canada's more reliable promotions, holding regularly scheduled professional events. Recently, in between their larger events, they've held smaller cards called "Unplugged."

It was revealed recently that MFC Unplugged 3 will happen April 20, and the main event will feature Halifax's Roger Hollett. Hollett must have impressed the MFC crowd with his 36-second KO of Mike Maurer at MFC 11 a few weeks ago. Look for him next at ECC 5, on March 31 in Halifax.

For Unplugged 3, the MFC is also bringing in the most recent addition of Pro Camp Sports Management, B.J. Penn student Scott Junk, who will fight for the first time outside of the Hawaiian Islands.

My only question is how they plan on fitting the 6-foot-1, 280-pound Junk through the doors to enter inside the smaller venue of the Crowne Plaza.

MFC Unplugged in April

Coming off the overwhelming success and media attention garnered by MFC 11 – Gridiron, the Maximum Fighting Championship is excited to announce its next show and a new athlete scheduled to compete. The MFC’s popular series Unplugged will return for its third show, Hits Back which will be held Friday, April 20 in the ballroom of the Crowne Plaza Chateau Lacombe in Edmonton.

The Unplugged series showcases young rising stars in mixed martial arts and at Hits Back one of the featured fighters who will be making his professional debut is Edmonton Police Service officer Ryan Lawley.

Lawley was a professional personal trainer and boxing instructor at Panther Gym in Edmonton before joining the EPS. He has been training in mixed martial arts for the past few years and is ready for his first opportunity in the MFC.

“I’ve wanted to fight for some time now to prove to myself that I can do it and to prove to everyone who has knocked mixed martial arts that it is a true sport and that the sport and the fighters deserve proper recognition,” said Lawley.
